Sanden Corporation is an automotive parts manufacturer specializing in automotive air conditioning compressors and systems. Since its founding over 80 years ago and its headquarters in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, we have expanded globally. Today, our primary product, automotive air conditioning compressors, maintains a strong second-place global market share, at approximately 13%. In recent years, we have focused on developing products compatible with electric vehicles, including electric compressors. As a result, we have transitioned from being a “component supplier” to a “full solution system supplier”.
Products and Technologies
Automotive Air Conditioning System Products
Sanden uses “cooling and heating” as its key technologies to deliver products, systems, and services that satisfy customers and realize advanced comfort environments, all with consistent global quality.
Sanden Group’s automotive air conditioning system products are adopted by manufacturers of automobiles, construction machinery, and agricultural machinery worldwide, with a focus on OEM products for automakers, manufactured and sold globally.
Integrated Thermal Management System (ITMS)
- Integrated Thermal Management System Development Project
As battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continue to gain global adoption, automotive air conditioning systems are undergoing a significant transition. Previously reliant on engine drive and exhaust heat, these systems are shifting towards motor-driven operation and heat recovery from the motor. Controlling cabin and battery temperatures has become a critical challenge that directly impacts a vehicle's driving range.
ITMS is an advanced technology that effectively utilizes EV thermal energy through various system components and their control, centered on electric compressors that Sanden has cultivated over time. We have already incorporated components related to ITMS into our own products.
The History of Sanden
Sanden was founded in 1943 as Sankyo Electric Co., Ltd., and changed its name to Sanden Corporation in 1982. In 1970, it entered into a technical partnership with Mitchell Corporation in the U.S. for car air conditioning compressors, marking the start of its global expansion. In 1981, Sanden was the first company in the world to develop, produce, and sell scroll-type compressors. In 1988, it acquired Vendo, the second-largest vending machine manufacturer in the U.S. The company then expanded into the Asian, European, and Chinese markets, and now operates in 22 countries with 46 locations. 93% of total revenue is derived from overseas sales.
