Sanden's Launches EnergyRanger® Vending Machines with Emergency-Period Lifeline Features

Sanden Corporation will in June 2011 launch EnergyRanger® beverage vending machines that can provide beverages even when the electric power supply is interrupted owing to disasters and other situations.
Sanden had previously marketed see-through-type disaster-responsive vending machines (Glass-Front Vendor (GFV) Series), but these machines have limitations regarding the volume of beverages that can be stocked and are designed exclusively for installation in indoor locations. The new EnergyRanger® models overcome those restrictions and are suitable for installation in a broader range of locations. They also offer unprecedented special features.
The principal special features are as follows.
1. They can provide internally stocked beverages at any time during a power outage.
They are equipped with generators and power storage devices. After opening the generating unit cover on the front of the vending machine, one can revolve a hand-crank to generate electricity that is supplied to the power storage device, thereby enabling the provision of beverages.
Moreover, because electricity can be generated at any time, the requisite amount of beverages can be obtained at any time, even when power outages continue for several days.
2. They offer peace of mind owing to high-performance, long-life features.
Their power storage devices incorporate double-layer capacitors*. Because their internal resistance level is low and they can discharge power quickly, there is little deterioration associated with power discharges. This gives the machines long useble life spans that enable peace of mind regarding their performance, even at times of unexpected disasters.
*Double-layer capacitors: These are large-capacity electric power storage devices that can be rapidly charged and discharged.
3. Even without a key to the vending machine, people can generate power and obtain beverages.
The cover of the power generation unit is configured so that it can be easily opened without a key, by using a coin or another similarly shaped object, so the power generation unit can be operated without the assistance of vending machine maintenance personnel. If necessary, it can also be equipped with a lock.
EnergyRanger® models are offered as made-to-order, line options for steel can/bottle type vending machine models (excluding certain models) in various sizes—with widths of 999mm to 1,318mm and depths of 640mm to 827mm.
